Moms Making Money: Achieving The Balance

Moms making money help with the family finances. They pay for vacations and purchase the family's Christmas gifts with cash. But they also need to strike a balance between business and family or there will be trouble.  Big trouble.

When I first started my home based business, I was very excited.  My husband was supportive, and to the extent that they understood what was going on, so were my children.  

As time went on, however, I became busier than I had ever wanted to be.  The phone was ringing off of the hook, even during dinnertime. My children started to complain that I was always on the phone or on the computer.  It didn't even matter any more that I was making money.  They wanted their mommy and it was obvious to them when I was not there for them.

Obviously, something had to give.  Either I was going to have to completely revamp my work-at-home schedule or my family life was really gong to suffer.

At about this same time, I was going through some new training that promised to revolutionize the way I built my business.  It involved using the internet to a greater extent than I had been previously.  

As I started going through it, a light went on in my head.  My creative juices started to flow, and before long I had created my own marketing funnel that would work on autopilot to bring not only new customers eager to purchase my goods and services, but also new business partners wanting to change their lives.

So, how can you get out of the same rut?  FIrst of all, I recommend starting with the same training that I did.  The skill sets you will acquire will help you in marketing any business, whether you are in a network marketing opportunity or have your own online storefront.

Second, make sure you set your hours and stick to them.  If you only take phone calls from 1-4PM, then make sure your clients know that upfront.  Talk to your children and let them know what your expectations are for them during that time.  Promise not to go over time if they will agree to be quiet and not interrupt unless someone is bleeding or there is a fire.

Third, use early morning hours for your marketing, before your children are awake.  There is nothing like a quiet house in which to gather your thoughts into a killer article.  The advantage is that your mind can be on your family when it matters the most.

Last--and I know this is not going to score big points with the liberated women out there--but I suggest keeping the house clean and having dinner ready on time every day.  That way your hubby can't complain.  Plus, you'll feel good about yourself and your ability to juggle so many important roles without feeling guilty that you have dropped a ball somewhere along the way.
